Address to the people of Remis and surrounding area:

I have tried my best to remain impartial but I am now discovering just how impossible this may be.  I find myself that I must choose a side, and I am sure it is the will of God that I choose to represent the people of the lower class. Read more

Note: I have taken the stance of both the 1st and 3rd estate.  The first because I am after all a priest, but I also have a strong moral sense and feel the 3rd estate has been treated poorly.

The King should ensure that:

1-    farmers be allowed to defend their property against wild animals.  — Many pests are constantly killing Farmer’s crops and cattle.  There is no reason for them not to be allowed to fight of wild animals. Read more

Dear Journal,
What a year this has been.  Family income has never been so low, and taxes have never been so high.  Tithes have gone down significantly, I am having trouble finding enough money for the children and myself to eat, let alone help the poor.  The debt the country has worked its self into is to great to get out of by merely taxing the poor, there is no money left, the rich instead must be taxed, Turgot must know this, he’s no fool. To the congregation:
Today I have chose a different teaching for all of you here today; I will explain how Gods views reflect on those of the Voltaire.

Voltaire, as inspirational as he is, is not saying anything new ladies and gentlemen; it’s all in Gods book. All men are equal in the eyes of the Lord; it’s in there folks. Voltaire hit that one right on the head. The poor should not be looked down upon as long as they follow the Lord, nor should the rich be praised unless they do believe. Read more

Dear Mother and Father,
How are you? I am fine as are the children. I can hardly think how the taxes must be affecting the farm. I know here the people are being taxed to near death. The peoples tithe is getting smaller, and the need for the church’s help is growing constantly, but the people give all they can, God bless them for that. There is little enough food to go around let alone food to send to the city to sell, and God hasn’t sent the manna of his people in quite some time now. I know although he will protect us as long as we keep faith. Read more

Remis

Dear Journal;
My name is Jean-Louis de la Rocque.  I am the priest of a small parish in a little town called Remis, which is located just about a day from Paris.  I am not married, just to my work, I do although have 3 children.  No of course I have not committed this terrible sin.  They are all orphans.  The oldest, Thibaut, is 8 and a rugged boy for his age, he is bigger than all the other children.  His father left his mother during the pregnancy, and his mother died during the birth and has been with me ever since.  The wages of is death.   His younger “brother”, Marc, is just 6 and is the joy of everyone around him.  He is an extremely energetic little boy, and never seems to stop going around in circles.  His parents both passed away about 1 ½ years ago due to the poor living conditions here, especially the lack of grain.  And the youngest child is Olivie.  She is 4 years, although she would tell you 4 ½.  Her parents are quite a mystery, she was left at my doorstep when she was just 2. Dear Journal,
What is happening to France is a question I often ask myself.  As I have said before the people finally got tired of the oppression from the government, and tired they should be.  It is for a good cause, but they are using violence.  Do the ends justify the means? I don’t think so.   The Lord has although used his people to cleanse the world of evil.  Perhaps soon I will part the English Channel and we will walk to England.  Read more
