Remis
Dear Journal,
What a year this has been. Family income has never been so low, and taxes have never been so high. Tithes have gone down significantly, I am having trouble finding enough money for the children and myself to eat, let alone help the poor. The debt the country has worked its self into is to great to get out of by merely taxing the poor, there is no money left, the rich instead must be taxed, Turgot must know this, he’s no fool.
I still don’t understand how the king can have such a large standing army, yet have no money. We need to expand our boundaries, conquer other nations; candian currency with an army as powerful as ours, and God on our side we should have no trouble.
Anyway enough of this talk, the children are well. What a pair the boys are, Thibaut, now 11, is an enormous child, and has a heart to match, but to say he had the mind to match his body would be a complete lie, however, Marc who is 9 seems to be almost completely the opposite, he is tiny by any standard, but I’m sure he is better at arithmetic than I am, he reads and reads. They are constantly running around together, going on adventures, doing boy things, building forts and causing trouble. God bless them. Olive now 7 is still the cutest child anyone has ever seen, and she knows it. Today she wandered of over the neighbors home, were she had a piece of pie, when she came home I was worried sick, but I had not the heart of stone required to scold her. french revolution
Even in theses times the church is growing, yet money is not, but I am sure God will provide for his children.
May the Lord bless us all, and our stomachs as well,
Jean
